Virtual In-processing (vIP)
"In-process like a vIP"
Problem: In-processing is delegated down to the unit but is not always accomplished or easily tracked.
Solution: Our team built a virtual in-processing system that is being scaled AF-wide to track and complete the process and give commanders better visibility.
Project Summary
The current paper-based in-processing system lacks follow-through. Introducing virtual in-processing will streamline tracking and verification, making the process effortless and reliable.
Why It Matters
Inadequate in-processing is causing data issues across the AF. According to AFPC, an impactful number of members have invalid deployment indicators, moving these members to the top of the list to deploy if not addressed. Correcting this data is integral to the in-processing effort. Neglecting in-processing can also lead to pay discrepancies for members and readiness challenges for units, affecting mission readiness and completed in-processing.
How It Works
The Travis team has pioneered virtual in-processing by consolidating checklists from across their wing into a comprehensive Air Force, Wing, Group, and unit-specific checklists. We can help bases build their organizations in the system, so individuals at their base can access virtual in-processing down to their unit. We empower bases to customize checklists with base-specific items and organizational details. This scalable system allows other wings to adopt and adapt checklists, akin to the virtual out-processing system.

Project Future
We are testing this system with five units and an additional Wing to ensure we trouble-shoot bugs and determine functionality of on-boarding new units. The next steps are to on-board all of the units at Travis AFB within four months and work to get multiple bases added, such as the 14 bases currently participating in testing. Our project needs approximately 10,000 users to propose this system as an Air Force program of record. There is excitement growing rapidly with over 50 bases already interested in this initial offering, so please reach out if you’d like more information on the program. We are estimating to submit vIP as the official Air Force unit in-processing system in the Spring of 2025.
